What does it mean to “engage”?

With the social media movement in full swing, engagement seems to be the new buzz word.  What does it mean to engage your customer?

According to engage is defined as “to occupy the attention or efforts of (a person or persons)”.

Below are 5 tips on how to improve your business’ customer engagement;

  1. Define Key Traffic Routes – Understand where your target audience conducts their day to day activities in order to reach them.
  2. Establish Key Messages – What is your message to your audience? What point do you want to get across?  How do you align with your brand?  Make sure your message is focused on your target audience’s interests.
  3. Demonstrate Integrity – Ensure your verbal and written content is accurate.  This will build trust with your audience and create an environment for them to consistently think of you when they require your products or services.
  4. Maintain an Open Dialogue – Allow your target audience to engage with you in a two way conversation.  This will lead to thought provoking conversations and ensure the audience makes a personal connection to the organization.
  5. Be Consistent – Once you have engaged your target audience, be consistent with the content and messages you are providing across all mediums.  Creativity must come within these parameters to ensure the longevity of your engagement.
